“ON THE TOWN” MAY 12-21
AT HUDSON GUILD THEATRE

Students of the Amas Musical Theatre Academy will present “ON THE TOWN” at the Hudson Guild Theatre, 441 West 26th Street, for two weeks in May. Directed by Christopher Scott with choreography by Monica Johnson, the beloved Leonard Bernstein/Comden & Green musical about three sailors on 24 hour leave in NYC, will open on Friday, May 12th and play nine performances through May 21st. Tickets are $18 with $12 seats available for students and seniors. Reservations can be made through SmartTix at (212) 868-4444.

The Rosetta LeNoire Theatre Academy, created by Amas Musical Theatre, is a performing arts training program open to students of all ethnic backgrounds from the five boroughs ages 14-20. Classes in singing, dancing and acting are held on Saturdays from October through May, culminating every spring with a fully-stage Off-Off-Broadway production of a major American musical. Recent seasons have included critically-acclaimed productions of FOOTLOOSE and THE ME NOBODY KNOWS.

Amas Musical Theatre (Donna Trinkoff, Producing Director) is a not-profit, multi-ethnic performing arts organization founded in 1969 by Rosetta LeNoire. Amas (which means ‘you love’ in Latin) is devoted to the creation, development and professional production of new American musicals, the celebration of diversity and minority perspectives, the emergence of new artistic talent, and the training and encouragement of inner-city young people. Recent Amas productions include Lone Star Love, or the Merry Wives of Windsor, Texas; Stormy Weather :The Story of Lena Horne; From My Hometown; Zanna, Don’t!; Langston Hughes’ Little Ham; and Four Guys Named Jose and una mujer named Maria.

Christopher Scott recently directed GOLF! THE MUSICAL Off-Broadway and THE BIG BANG for American Musical Theatre of San Jose as well as numerous productions in New York. As an actor he has appeared on Broadway, off-Broadway and on TV including more than 1,000 performances as the Boy in THE FANTASTICKS. Choreographer Monica Johnson celebrates her 12th season with the Rosetta LeNoire Academy including choreographing WORKING, THE ME NOBODY KNOWS, ONCE ON THIS ISLAND and THE ROBBER BRIDEGROOM. She is also a well-known performer and teacher. Marshall Keating is Musical Director with set design by Michael V. Moore, lighting design by Herrick Goldman, costume design by Cheryl A. McCarron, and sound design by SFX Productions.
