Creating and developing new musicals is the main activity of Amas Musical Theatre

Amas Lab Series

Staged “readings,” many free to the public, feature outstanding New York talent interpreting roles and songs in 29 or 39 hours of concentrated rehearsal and performance. Labs are presented on a bare stage with performers on script at music stands. The emphasis is on story and songs, with minimal staging.

Amas Workshop

Amas Workshops rehearse two to three weeks, integrating increased production values. Performers are off book, in costume, and choreography is introduced into musical numbers.

Amas Mainstage Program

The Amas Mainstage launches fully produced Off Broadway premieres, most of them world premieres, for runs of five to eight weeks. Mainstage productions are reviewed by critics and are eligible for Lucille Lortel, Off-Broadway Alliance, Obie, Calloway, and Drama Desk Nominations and Awards.

Select writers and composers, who share Amas’ vision of cultural equity and diversity, receive professional expertise, resources, and a development process for their work.
